Company History
G.T. Key Companies, Inc. was established as an electrical company in 1933 by Griffin T. Key II on property that was once the first electrical substation in Montgomery, Alabama. The building still stands today. During the 1940s the company graduated from small residential jobs to working for the Rural Electrification Administration on Alabama lines, as well as designing distribution systems for several Alabama cities. On his passing, the business was handed down to his son, Griffin T. Key III who continued the tradition of commercial and industrial electrical contracting.
Since conception, the business has expanded to include an industrial and commercial electrical contracting division, an industrial and commercial lighting division, and a fully integrated converged networks division. In 2002 Griffin Key passed away and left his work and legacy in the hands of his daughter, Debbie Petranka and son-in-law, Joe Petranka. While we maintain our place on the cutting edge of technology, we remain grounded in the rich history and tradition of the linemen who were integral to the development of our company. Our goal is to honor that tradition with our service, quality, and integrity of workmanship.
